Travel notes.

Random thoughts and jots from my journal.

The clouds roll in to the south and light up the sky with their brilliant
energy. Sideways in their magnificence.

(Overheard from a dreadlocked Israeli girl telling off this guy on acid)
"Don't teach, or preach. Tell. Passionately. And people will listen."

The Thai hostess points out the days catch to a blond haired western girl,
and Jay, her son -- the jedi of flaming sabers -- spins his fiery blade of
kerosene faster than my eyes can keep.
Twenty feet up it flies, to be caught by a Frenchman that has been honing
his art every day, practicing with an unlit stick by days light, to join
the sandy circle of flame and night and practiced Thais.
The DJ spins the record to their dance, laughing maniacally in bursts
between beats.

Five figures crouch huddled beneath the awning, watching as the umbrellas
bob steadily down the street. Occasionaly they call out "Massage?" to
passerby wearing tank-tops and 3-dollar shirts emblazoned with Britney.
At various bars along the street, musicians strum to the revolving beat
of Bob Marley and feel-good pop music. There must be a sheet music
exchange in one of these twisted back alleys.
To my right a vendor sells bras and panties.
A group of children walk prancing by, each bearing a bouquet of roses.
A man tells them, "go to bed already," but buys some anyway.
As I watch, a card is thrust in front of me. "I'm deaf," it says. Buy
something.
A series of honks draws my eyes to the cart rolling slowly down the
street selling mealworms and grasshoppers. Deep fried and delicious.
Then comes the squid cart, selling dried squid on a stick,
and stinks up the street.
